The Library of Virginia is pleased to announce the release of the Caroline
County Chancery Causes, 1787-1836 in digital format. Caroline County is
in the Northern Piedmont region which adds it to the records of three
other localities that have indexes available for searching in that
region: King George County, Louisa County, and Orange County. The index
and accompanying images are available through the Library’s Web site via
the Chancery Records Index at
http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/local/chancery/index.htm. The Chancery
Records Index is a result of archival processing projects sponsored by the
Virginia Circuit Court Records Preservation Program at the Library of
Virginia. This particular project is the result of the processing and
indexing of the Caroline County chancery papers housed at the LVA.
Additional chancery causes remain under the control of the Circuit Court
Clerk.
Please be sure to check the “What’s Available” page of the Chancery
Records Index for a listing of all the localities currently indexed and
the format in which the records are served. At this time, Fauquier and
Caroline are the only localities that have digital images available.
