Hate to say it but one of my ancestors was a deserter in the Civil War.
Joseph Gremore was wounded at the battle of Drewry's Bluff, VA in May
1864 and spent time at Fort Monroe hospital. Went out on a furlough but
never came back so listed as deserted September 1864. Was He was born
c.1832 in Canada and enlisted Union in New York.
Does anyone have information or can point me to what injuries he
sustained and what happened to him after desertion? We are running into
dead ends.
Thanks!
Eric
