Could he have been a jailor . . . received 2d. for every person ("head")
that he kept under lock and "key"? It's just a stab!

Subject: question
A friend of mine came across this reference to a relative while doing family
history research. It says:
"In 1655 he was chosen to keep the Pound, and is to have 2d. for every head
he turns the key upon."
Any ideas about what this might mean?
Thanks-John Maass
