In 2004 the National Genealogical Society donated an extensive card file
of deceased physicians to the National Library of Medicine at NIH. I do
not know when these files were donated to NGS by the AMA; however, they
were filmed prior to the donation by the Family History Library and are
listed in their card catalog. *Records of United States Deceased
Physician File (AMA). *The files are described as "Name index and images
of the deceased physician card file from the American Medical
Association (AMA), which are physician biographic records of decedent
records from 1864 to 1968." These were card files arranged
alphabetically and filmed on 267 reels of microfilm. They are available
digitally and searchable by name or the files can be browsed. There are
707,724 images. The images should include the front and back of the
cards and often have copies obituaries attached.
