For that period, off the top of my head I would suggest:

Philip Morgan, "Slave Counterpoint."
Winthrop Jordan, "White Over Black."
Edmund S. Morgan, "American slavery, American freedom : the ordeal of
colonial Virginia."

All of the above will lead you to primary sources.

And there's also a source on the LVA website:
"Slavery in Virginia : a selected bibliography," by David Feinberg.

You could also look at the first 100 pages of my book "An Imperfect
God," for the racial milieu of George Washington's youth and young
adulthood.
