MUTUAL ASSURANCE SOCIETY Insurance Policies (Virginia)

Is anyone here familiar with these records? I have used them in the past locating people and the houses they built but, sometimes they seem to be a bit whacky.

Diana Morgan who owned a grindstone and screen business handed down to her by a deceased husband Abel Morgan. It appears she died in 1822 but, there are MA policies for property off N 27th and Franklin Streets (Richmond, VA) she owned dating 1844 and 1848 which have her name attached. One mentions a renter who eventually shows up as the owner (David Ross). When he died, his heirs are shown to have life rights there but it mentions that one of the buildings on the property, Morgan was living in. I doubt it but wonder because of the "heirs" and life rights situation, if the policies are grandfathered by the previous owner who is deceased? Especially if possibly Morgan purchased the property out of friendship with Ross, who she did business with?

Thanks

Eric
