Washington County chancery causes, 1849-1912, have been digitized and are
freely available from the Chancery Records Index. Additional case files for
the years 1912-1913 will be added in the near future.

Though the county was created in 1776, many early court records were lost
when Union Capt. James B. Wyatt, a Washington County native, set fire to
the courthouse in December 1865.
