Join us for the annual Fairfax County History Conference, and hear an
address by keynote speaker The Honorable Vince Callahan, 40-year member
of the VA House of Delegates (Retired). This year's theme, Our Twentieth
Century, will be explored within three topic areas: Breaking Barriers,
Bricks & Mortar, and Changing Patterns.
Three sessions will run concurrently, allowing each attendee to choose
one presentation per session.
Session 1:
Breaking Barriers: "Asian American Arrivals" by Anne Cahill, Cora Foley

Bricks & Mortar: "The Preservation of Mt. Vernon; Setting the
Preservation Stage" by Dennis Pogue, Ph. D.
Changing Patterns: "Fairfax County: Rooted in Agriculture" by Yvonne
Johnson
Session 2:
Breaking Barriers: "The Progressive Era-Suffragists, Single Mothers &
Society's Sinners" by Lynne Garvey-Hodge
Bricks & Mortar: "20th-Century Architecture" by John Burns
Changing Patterns: "Roosevelt's Tree Army - The Civilian Conservation
Corps" by Mary Lipsey
Session 3:
Breaking Barriers: "The Desegregation of Fairfax County Schools" by
Megan Garnett
Bricks & Mortar: "Seven Corners: A Post WWII Transformation" by Chris
Martin, Ph. D.
Changing Patterns: "All Roads Lead to Fairfax: Tourist Courts & Diners"
by Randolph Lytton, Ph.D.
Conference includes exhibits, book signings, continental breakfast,
lunch, and free parking.
Local historians and authors may register for exhibit space.
