While going about the business of being an archivist, we often find
items that are shocking and offensive to our modern day sensibilities.
An 1895 advertisement found in a Rockingham chancery cause is one such
example. While offensive in 2012, such advertisements were unfortunately
commonplace in the 19th century as they played into commonly held
beliefs and reinforced existing prejudices.
