Looking for evidence related to the selection process for lay readers
at Virginia parish churches, with particular interest in the period
from1730 to 1770.

Aside from the obvious criterion of the ability to read, what
requirements were there for the position. "Requirements" to include
formal rules and informal customs, as to age, property ownership, etc.
Some vestries denoted the position as reader and sometimes as clerk
(the latter term also appearing to refer to the minister depending on
the parish).
