Everyone,

The VCU Year of Freedom project presents the first of a series of brown-bag lunch talks to explore the meaning of the Civil War and Emancipation on this 150th anniversary.

On Wednesday, 12 September, at noon, at the Forum Room at the VCU Student Commons (http://www.maps.vcu.edu/monroepark/univcommons/),

Lauranett Lee, Curator of African American History, and Paige Newman, Assistant Archivist, will introduce the Virginia Historical Society's "Unknown No Longer: A New Database to Track the Enslaved." The database will gather the names of enslaved Virginians in the millions of documents in the society's collections.

The presentation will be of interest to anyone involved with genealogical research, the study of African American history, and Virginia history.

Please feel free to bring your lunch. For more information or special accommodation, please contact Ryan K. Smith, Department of History, [log in to unmask], or call (804) 828-1635.

Best,

John
