Read the latest entry on the “Out of the Box” blog from the archival staff
at The Library of Virginia. This week’s post is about the efforts to
preserve Smyth County’s cohabitation register -- one of only twenty one
known to exist in the state. These registers provide a rare glimpse into the
family structure of the enslaved and a treasure trove of genealogical
information.
