I have to chuckle at some of the epitaphs and legends that come with some of the burials I find while working on the upcoming book of War of 1812 Veterans' Burials in Virginia.
This one is priceless:
"Legend tells us that he was so mean to his wife that she buried him face down and covered his grave with a with a three foot wall of stone and placed one huge stone on top of that to ensure he would never return to this earth."
This was for John Gilliam, died 1828 in Buckingham County. We don't know the name of the widow.
