NEWS & UPCOMING REVOLUTIONARY EVENTS
SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA TOUR
We need about eight more people to break even on this trip. Please consider joining us. Be sure to send your check and information soon. All checks are now being accepted - both members and non-members.
The tour will be lead by Dr. Patrick H. (Pat) Hannum, Professor, Joint Forces Staff College, National Defense University, Lt Col USMC (Ret). This tour will visit three critically important Revolutionary War sites in the modern Cities of Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake in order to help inform the important events and explain how the Whig Government ousted the Royal Governor, Lord Dunmore, and British military forces from the State of Virginia.
These events largely unfolded in the fall of 1775 and culminated with the destruction of the City of Norfolk in early 1776. Strategically important, these events led to near uncontested Whig control of the State of Virginia for three and one-half years. The British defeat at Yorktown in October 1781 traces its roots to the critical decisions and decisive actions of the Whig Governments of Virginia and North Carolina in the fall of 1775. FROM DAVE RIGGS
With the forthcoming ARRT trip, you might be interested to learn that the National Park Service’s American Battlefield Protection Program has awarded $63,500 to the Great Bridge Battlefield Foundation. Historians and preservationists will use these funds to assist in research, documentation, and interpretive planning.
The American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP) is one of more than a dozen programs administered by the National Park Service that provide states and local communities technical assistance, recognition, and funding to help preserve their own history and create close-to-home educational and recreational opportunities. Also, Fort Ticonderoga Association was selected for a comparable financial award.

BATTLEFIELD VISITATION
John Maass alerted me to this article. While it's specific to the Civil War, it also seems to have implications to most other historic sites.
