I can sympathize with your problem. The Library of Virginia should be able
to make a copy of a single deed for you for far less than $200. I think that
is for the entire reel. Shenandoah is the only County I know of that will
not make copies of their older deeds. My only other suggestion is to take a
digital camer with you and shoot pictures of the pages you want copied.

Subject: Shenandoah Co.
I am new to this list so please forgive me of my ignorance.
I just made a 400 mile trip to the Shenandoah Co. courthouse and found I was
unable to copy records as they are on MF at the Library of Virginia. Hard
lesson learned (research the research center before making such a trip). I
was able to get deed book/page #, will book/page #, marriage record book/#
for 3 different individuals. After reading the forms I find that it will
cost in excess of $200 to get a copy of the MF copy sent to me. I was told
the ILL is available. Is it available to out-of-state individuals?
I just submitted one record for deeds on one individual and submitted it
on-line just to see what I end up with.
I am in Kentucky and it is cost-prohibited for me to make the trip to
Library to get copies of records I already know the book/page #'s to.
This is new to me. I have always been able to go to the local courthouses
here in Kentucky and get copies of any record I need. Tennessee also-their
records are on
MF also but the counties have that MF on site so they can print it off for
you.
I understand the nature of MF vs. original copies which are in danger of
being destroyed from age/use.
I just need some recommendations on how to go about getting this information
without going into debt doing it.
Thanks for any help.
