The Department of Art History in the School of the Arts at Virginia
Commonwealth University caps two decades of Symposia on Architectural
History and the Decorative Arts with “Traditions–IV.” The sparkling
presentations, directed by Professor Charles Brownell, will take place at
the Virginia Historical Society on Friday, November 16th, 2012 from 9:00
a.m.-3:30 p.m. The four sessions will deal with Virginia’s Jeffersonian
Capitol and the adjacent area, Court End; American Palladian mansions,
North and South; masters of the Colonial Revival; and a summary of twenty
years of architectural history at VCU. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts,
VCU Libraries, and a dozen other major institutions are sponsors. Admission
is free to all students with a valid ID, $8 per person for members of
sponsoring institutions, and $10 per person for others. Reservations are
necessary for three additional events: a luncheon in honor of Dr. Brownell
($10); a tour of Court End (free); and a reception at the beautifully
restored Hancock-Wirt-Caskie House ($15).

For additional information, please call (804) 828-2784 or email Program
Coordinator Krista Privott at [log in to unmask]
