A UVA student might be willing to lend their car for a month. Or an elderly local resident might ask for the occasional car ride for help in kind. Might be worth a call to UVA Student Affairs or tap into local Portuguese/Brazilian networks (https://spanitalport.as.virginia.edu<https://spanitalport.as.virginia.edu/>) Also local churches. (Note that UVA offices close 22 December for break).

Subject: [VA-HIST] Visiting historian needs car rental

A scholar from Brazil whom I met on a fellowship at Mount Vernon is
coming in January on a fellowship at Monticello's International Center for
Jefferson Studies. He's looking to rent a car for a month and asked if I
can suggest anything. Aside from the obvious options found at most
airports, I would happily pass along any alternative possibilities in the
Charlottesville area.
His comparative work on revolutionary era militias is interesting.
Many thanks - and holiday greetings

Jon
