I appreciate the response, but I think it doesn't quite get at the main
part of my question:
in *ANTEBELLUM Richmond*, how were jurors and forepersons of juries
selected, and how long did they serve? This individual seems to have been
serving for months or perhaps years at a time. Clearly, the process was
quite different than our current system in which, as you note, jurors
choose a member to serve as foreperson for a particular trial.
