To those who may know.
Question:
In the 1830s-50 time period, when a sailing ship left the docks at Richmond, Virginia and went down river, sailing ships (frequently brigs) were towed a distance down river by steamships and then released to make their own way to the Chesapeake and the open sea. At what place on the James River were ships towed to and released?
I thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
