I can only hazard a guess that it is an odd spelling of Manchukuo that was the puppet regime set up by Japan in Inner Mongolia during the Japanese invasion of China. I seem to recall that Puyi, the last Chinese Emperor, was installed by the Japanese as the nominal head of state. I cannot however, see any link to Virginian history and perhaps the word relates to some American Indian word.
