Its not unusual for 18th -early 19th century Virginia plantations to have had family graveyards and slave graveyards, both of which in specific cases may or may not be 'abandoned' today.
1 - Is there any formal or informal organization in the Commonwealth which maintains records or has an interest in such 'abandoned' graveyards?
2 - Given that we may not be sure who is buried in an abandoned graveyard, does a citizen of the Commonwealth have any rights of access/maintenance? i.e. I've looked at statutes and reviewed court cases and it is clear that a descendant of someone in a graveyard has specific rights.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
