I'm a maritime historian/archaeologist and have found for past research that
the "Notes" are a good summation of navigable rivers during the late
18th/early 19th century.  There is sometimes information on watercraft types
for which I am interested (e.g. batteax).  I didn't do a search. When I saw
your question, "Notes" was one of the first places I looked and happened to
see Hobbs Hole. I've found that indexes aren't always complete on old
publications.
