Jane Webb, a multiracial Virginia woman, attempted to use colonial-era law to ensure her children's freedom, an audacious undertaking for the time. Given that history, it is somewhat unsurprising to learn that one of her children was similarly bold in challenging the status quo. Read more in today's The UncommonWealth.
