The Historic Petersburg Foundation and Petersburg Department of
Tourism will sponsor a talk on Tuesday, June 8 at 7pm at the Union
Train Station, 103 River Street in Petersburg on Fort Clifton. The
speaker is David Malgee who is a local historian and has written copy
for five Virginia Historical Highway Markers, as well as several Civil
War markers. He has also written on the history of Colonial Heights
and Fort Clifton. The fort is in Colonial Heights.
According to the press release, despite its obscurity, Fort Clifton
played a pivotal role in three Civil War campaigns, the 1862 Peninsula
Campaign, the 1864 Bermuda Hundred Campaign, and the 1864-65 Siege of
Petersburg.
The talk is free and open to the public. The contact for this is
Michelle Olgers at (804) 304-4200.
