Sorry I cannot help on that one, but maybe he was not as upset as it sounds. He had a terrific sense of humor. When he was the rector of Cunningham Chapel Parish, his 1832 annual report to the diocese contained the wonderful observation.....
"While the Rector of the Parish could wish that its religious state were much better, he is thankful it is not worse."
I thought it so good, that I had coffee mugs made up with that great quote.
