I am looking for information about a slave named Diana DeGodis
Washington Hines, born either 1787 or 1797 in VA, died 1891 in Indiana.
According to her family's history she was a slave of George Washington
at Mount Vernon, was sold at about age 25 to the owner of the Jackson
Hotel in Arlington, VA. I am puzzled by the name "DeGodis," which seems
unique. I can't find any record of anyone else with that name, anywhere.
Does anyone have any ideas about the origin of that name?
I m also interested in the Jackson Hotel can anyone point me to a
source on early Arlington history that might make mention of this hotel?
