Howdy all,
This is probably a basic question for those of you who work on antebellum
Richmond, so thank you for indulging my asking it:
How did someone come to be foreman (definitely gendered role at the time)
of the Hustings Court jurors? There is someone who is a minor character in
the story I am piecing together who seems to have been in this role for
quite a stretch of the mid-1860s. Was this an appointed position? Paid?
Prestigious? How long was the duration of service? Was someone in the role
indefinitely or subject to re-appointment?

Thanks for any help on this,
Lois
