According to Cocke's /Parish Lines Diocese of Va/., St Margaret's was
formed in 1721. St. Asaph's was formed in 1780 and the boundary line
between the two was the Mattaponi River with St. Margaret's lying to the
west of St. Asaph's. You should be able to track the land in the tax
lists forward and see which was listed as an estate in 1818. The tax
lists are on film available on interlibrary loan from LVA.

It was the home of William Taliaferro d. 1817 and his wife Elizabeth Hartwell Cocke Taliaferro. There are two William Taliaferro's on the 1815 land tax list, one who lived 6 miles southwest of the courthouse and one who was 14 miles northeast of same. I am not sure of the boundary that separates the two tax districts in the county. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
