Yes, thanks, as Henry Wiencek said two weeks ago, he had "seen the news
on a couple of blogs." And the Times story
(http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/27/us/budget-cuts-to-limit-public-access-to-georgia-archives.html)
does stipulate, "Gov. Nathan Deal of Georgia has said he will push to
restore some financing for the state archives in the coming budget
cycle." It seems to me that everybody who values archives and civic and
scholarly memory can be glad that the news got picked up and examined by
at least one prominent national publication. (Maybe others have picked
it up too?) And it seems to me that it's also great that the NYT saw fit
to expand the story to a more general level, pondering the future -- and
the importance -- of public recordkeeping and archives in the coming
years of the digital age.
