The Valentine Richmond History Center, an AAM accredited institution,
located in Richmond's Historic Court End neighborhood, seeks to fill the
following positions:
Position Title: Collections Assistants
Number of Positions: 3 (1 per collection: Archives, Costume & Textiles
Collection, General Collection)
Tenure: Temporary, part time position, April 2007 - June 2008
Hours: 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Salary: $8.00 per hour, no benefits
General Responsibilities: Collections Assistant will assist the
Collections Team with the cataloguing and data entry of objects in all
collections. Will review files for data entry into the i/o collections
database. Will assist with inventory of collections and data entry of
material into i/o database following inventory. This work is conducted
in accordance with the museum's official Collections Management Policy,
adhering to the code of ethics advised by the American Association of
Museums.

Qualifications: The collection assistant must be organized and
detail-oriented with good computer literacy. Knowledge of Access
database system a plus.
Archives Qualifications & General Collections Collection Qualifications:
S/he should be enrolled at a university at the junior level or above in
history, art history, museum studies, art or archaeology. S/he must have
an interest in problem solving.
Costume and Textiles Collection Qualifications: S/he should be enrolled
at a university at the junior level or above or a college graduate in
fashion, theater (with a focus in costume), museum studies or prove
proficiency of basic sewing skills. S/he should be able to perform
minor repairs to objects; able to perform basic sewing tasks related to
proper storage of objects and assist with exhibition instillation as
needed.
