Historic Richmond Tours, a service of the Valentine Richmond History
Center, will be offering Guide School 2007, a training program for those
interested in becoming step-on guides. An information sharing session will
be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Valentine
Richmond History Center, 1015 E. Clay St. Richmond, VA.
Tour guides provide step-on guide service for school and adult group tours
as well as walking tours of city neighborhoods, the Court End and
Hollywood Cemetery. It is a part-time hourly position, requiring a
flexible schedule and weekday availability.
Perspective guides should have a love of Richmond history, and a desire to
share their knowledge with others. They should be comfortable with school
children as well as adults; have an overall grasp of the layout of the
city; and have the ability to adapt to changes/requests that might arise
during a tour.
Guides are required to complete a 10 week (4 hours per week) training
program and pass a final exam. There is a fee for training, partly
refundable after a year's worth of service. Next training class begins in
late January 2007.
If you are interested in training, need additional information or have any
questions, please contact me by phone at 804-649-0711, ext. 319 or e-mail
at [log in to unmask]
Please feel free to pass the information along to anyone you think might
be interested.
Thank you,
Linda Krinsky
