Today, the pound sterling symbol is written preceding the number as is
the US dollar. eg: $250.

In older text the symbol is sometimes seen AFTER the value. Was this
customary at some point in time then changed in modern times?

Or have some scribes written the symbol after the value to coincide with
spoken usage.

I'm not describing this situation very well because I suspect that the
symbol itself will not transcend cyberspace in an unadulterated form.

Thanks for any help from you VA Listers - Judith Bailey Gabor
