Absolutely. The indentured were not just
Irish and Scots. They were also English
caught in the British legal net.
The standard term of indenture was seven
years for an adult, but that term could and
was extended for pregnancy, sickness, and
minor children. Colonial North America was a
deadly place for many Europeans, too: not
only was the weather different from home,
there were also new diseases, such as yellow
fever.
