Book Launch | Justice for Ourselves: Black Virginians Claim Their Freedom After Slavery

Join us to celebrate the publication of a new book from Library of Virginia historians and editors John G. Deal, Marianne E. Julienne and Brent Tarter. Justice for Ourselves: Black Virginians Claim Their Freedom After Slavery tells the story of remarkable men and women in the post–Civil War decades who persevered in the face of withering barriers to create a new world for themselves and subsequent generations.

The authors will be joined in a conversation with Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan and National Park Service supervisory park ranger Ajena Cason Rogers, who wrote the foreword and afterword, respectively. The event kicks off with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by the talk at 6:30 p.m. and a book signing at 7:30 p.m.

This is a free event. Registration<https://lva-virginia.libcal.com/event/12456579> is required. Seating in the Lecture Hall is available on a first come, first served basis. Limited free parking is available in the deck underneath the Library building. For more information, contact Anne McCrery at [log in to unmask] or 804.692.3568.
