Thank you; the Headstone for William Henderson Peck was professionally installed and is secure. Re: finding the descendants that you speak about a Genealogist can help you. You did not say in what county the graves exist. I used a Pro for some research in southwestern Virginia but neither of us found Peck's people in 1870 in Va or elsewhere. After emancipation enslaved African Americans reportedly left Montgomery County and Pulaski County in droves. Any help would be appreciated. The history of the county and it's people is critical.

I found the headstone at Find-A-Grave. How secure is it on what looks like soft unstable land? I have see so many stones that size and smaller sink to one side or another and then topple over.

The person who built our house in 1812 owned 9-slaves. He did not leave a will but the property was probated by the court and the slaves listed only by first name in the inventory dated in 1823 (he died in 1820). I am afraid my quest to locate these individuals would be fruitless but would like to find at least the family to one of them.

Eric, to brighten your day, see the Headstone(Find a Grave website or Google) which I designed, commissioned and financed for William Henderson Peck 1859-1950 in Bosque Bella Cemetary,Fernandina Beach,Florida. He was owned by Wm H Peck and the widow Henderson in Blacksburg,Va. Despite years of research I was unable to determine how he got to Howard University in Washington,DC or what happened to his mother who he listed as Hattie Henderson. Wm H Peck, owner was a notable in Blacksburg before 1863 when he sold everything and moved to Logan Co West Va. Well, Wm H Peck, enslaved became a notable in Florida. I am his descendant and when I found his grave without a Marker/Headstone not too long ago, I corrected the problem. A life well-lived deserved no less.
