Subject: Question for the Forum

Question for the Forum.

My earliest known, to me that is, ancestor is Thomas Cullum who lived in
Surry/Sussex Co., VA as early as 1725. He married Elizabeth Johnson & they
lived on land given by her father adjacent to what is now Waverly. Since they
started out living on the largess of her father I'm reasonable sure he had no
resources of his own & I guess he was an indentured servant . After he died his
family dispersed to North Carolina & other southern states. I haven't been able
to trace him before 1725. There were Cullu(o)ms in Maryland but I can't make a
connection. There were Cullu(o)ms in Devon, England at the time but I can't
identify the immigrant. I was hoping that some of the learned members of the
forum might make an educated guess as to how he arrived in Virginia. Is it more
likely that he came overland from Maryland or, since they were across the river
from Jamestown, is it more likely he came by ship from England? Any
contributions would be appreciated.
