Hi all,
This message went out without all of its web links. Hopefully this
version will work!
Gregg
Greetings,
I am one of the producers of the American history radio show, "BackStory
with the American History Guys" (www.backstoryradio.org), hosted by
historians Ed Ayers, Peter Onuf, and Brian Balogh and based at UVA's
Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. We recently re-released a show
that may be of interest to VA-HIST subscribers. "Coming Home: A History
of War Veterans" commemorates the upcoming Veterans Day holiday by
exploring the diverse experiences of veterans returning home from war
over three centuries. How have we as a country treated veterans once
they're back home? Are veterans only as popular as the wars they fought
in? Highlights include interviews with historian Rebecca Jo Plant on the
role that mothers and wives have played in the lives of returning vets;
Frank Earnest, former Commander of the Virginia Division of the Sons of
Confederate Veterans on conflicting allegiances; a group of senior
veterans from the Virginia American Legion on their personal experiences
returning home; and psychologist Ed Tick on how he uses lessons from
history in his work with veterans and their families. The show will be
broadcast over the airwaves in various US cities over the coming week
and is also available for download and streaming here:

An important part of our mission at BackStory is to create useful
material for teachers. The Teacher Resources page on our website
(http://backstoryradio.org/about-the-show/teacher-resources/) helps
facilitate educators who would like to use the show in their classrooms.
Feedback is most welcome as we continue to find ways to work more
closely with teachers. Please let us know what you think, and how we can
serve you better in the future!
Thanks,
Catherine V. Moore
