According to the "Report of the Special Committee to Co-operate with the
State Library Board," dated July 29, 1929, the Warwick County Clerk's Office
was burnt on December 15, 1864. Apparently quoting the county clerk, the
report states: "The minute books of the old County Court from 1787 to 1819
were all destroyed by the fire that burned the Court House December 15,
1864; also all of the files in all cases and causes prior to that time. All
other records are intact and are in the files in this office." There is no
mention of how the fire started.
