In my case I was able to prove the oral history, as my mother told me. I
have heard other family members who have different interpretation. My
brother and I took DNA test as well, and in my case proved my research. The
oral history that my Great Great Grandmother left was proved by the wife of
President Conte. She participated in a project with South Carolina, in which
they traced the slaves from Guinea to South Carolina. I have a letter from
her stating that the children were taken and sold, in the Americas. Mrs.
Conte was doing research to locate these children, as they were part of the
Royal family. This happened the same year that my ancestor said she was
kidnapped, and sold into slavery. My ancestor was from the ruling families
in Guinea, Keita & Camery, and were Muslim. The incident happened in 1830,
when slavery was supposed to have ended. The slavers took them to the
Caribbean, and then sold them into South Carolina as Island Slaves. She may
have been brought over on the Lightburn, as that was one of the main ships
taking slaves.
It is all very interesting.
