Me too. Libraries for me, are like oases spread across a landscape
that is otherwise all too frequently barren of other intellectual
activity. With the exception of Flagler College library in Florida,
which had a beautiful building, but virtually no books, and a very
snotty staff — in retrospect embarrassed I think by my scholarly
inquiries, and their meager resources — I have never been received
with anything but courtesy and an offer of assistance in any of the
hundreds of libraries I have visited. These may be the last bastions
of civil discourse in an increasingly anti-intellect partisan
dogmatic culture.
