Although it is not within the stated purview of this list I have just  
completed a paper on Benjamin Franklin and his invention of micro- 
lending 200 years before the Grameen Bank or Kiva.org, as well as the  
pathway that has led to the philanthropy which is such a notable  
aspect of the American national character, and will be glad to send a  
pre-print to any list member for whom it might hold interest. Contact  
me privately.
