The Great Valley Road of Virginia: Shenandoah Landscapes from Prehistory
to the Present Book signing reception with Warren Hofstra, editor, and
Scott Jost, contributing photographer, and an exhibit of original Valley
Road photographs and note cards by Scott Jost Friday, October 1, 5-7 PM,
at The Gaines Group, 107 S. Main St #2, Harrisonburg.

More about the Book

The Great Valley Road of Virginia is a history of U.S. Route 11 between
the Potomac River at Williamsport, Maryland, and the James River at
Buchanon, Virginia, edited by Warren R. Hofstra, Shenandoah University
and Karl Raitz, University of Kentucky. The book features 53 photographs
of vernacular architecture and physical geography along the Valley Road
by contributing photographer Scott Jost. Contributing Authors include
Michael N. McConnell, Gabrielle M. Lanier, Geraldine Wojno Kiefer, James
K. Bryant II, Kenneth W. Keller, and Ann E. McCleary.

"The Great Valley Road of Virginia strikes a very good balance between
the academic and the popular. Those interested in cultural landscapes in
general, and highway landscapes in particular, will love the book, as
well as anyone with an interest in the Shenandoah Valley. This is an
intelligent narrative and the depth of research, insight, and attention
to detail will make this volume the 'go-to' book on the Shenandoah
Valley." -Kevin Patrick, Indiana University of PA, author of
Pennsylvania Caves and Other Rocky Roadside Wonders

This book signing and exhibit coincide with the October First Fridays
Downtown gallery walk in Harrisonburg. Come enjoy the book signing,
photographs and reception, then take in the rest of the First Fridays
exhibits and performances along with dinner or drinks downtown. Bring
your friends!
