The only reliable biography of William Byrd (1728-1777) is by the late
Emory G. Evans and was published in volume 2 of the Library of
Virginia's Dictionary of Virginia Biography (2001), pages 470-472.
Evans's research found only anecdotal evidence for the death of Byrd and
variant dates for his death, either 1 or 2 January 1777. For a decade or
more I tried to persuade Evans to write a full biography of Byrd, but he
did not undertake the work while completing his recent excellent A
Topping People.

Subject: [VA-HIST] William Byrd III
Can anyone recommend a good biography of William Byrd III?
Specifically, does anyone know the true particulars of his suicide
(where, when, and possibly why he took his life).
