Ed: Have you explored the Know-Nothings in Virginia in the 1850s? If
memory serves, Know-Nothing Thomas Flournoy made a significant challenge
to Henry Wise in 1855. There is an essay on the Know-Nothings by John
David Bladek ("Virginia is Middle Ground") in the winter 1998 Virginia
Magazine of History and Biography.
