There's sacred soil up North too.
The obelisk at Lexington Green, the nation's first Revolutionary War
monument (put up 1799) has an inscription which begins:
Sacred to Liberty & the Rights of Mankind!!!
The Freedom & Independence of America!!!
Sealed and defended with the blood of her sons.
The inscription names the men killed on the Green and refers to "The
Blood of these Martyrs."
