Dear All: Quakers and Mennonites objected to taking oaths in the 18th
century (especially swearing on the Bible). Did others? A Presbyterian
group asked the House of Delegates to change the oath requirements in
1778 (although this was clearly not a problem generally for
Presbyterians). I have not seen any reference to Methodists objecting
to oaths, but it occurs to me they might have (although not clear why
Presbyterians were carrying their water...). Presbyterians might have
just been being good citizens. Thoughts? Thanks, John Ragosta
