With apologies to Gregg, I would like to make an observation on the 
inclusion of a contentious fact in a 4th grade textbook. 4th grade 
social studies is sometimes a child's first or early introduction to the 
use of a textbook. The textbook, after thorough review for other 
contentious facts, should be returned to the publisher for revision.

Too bad the texbook isn't offered online instead of in a printed book. 
It would be so much easier to remove that statement and move on.

BTW, I think it is a overstatement. I don't want to theorize on why an 
overstatement instead of the basic facts was put in a textbook for 4th 
grade.
