You can find both Capt John Smith's and William Strachey's word list on the
Mariner's Museum website:
http://www.mariner.org/chesapeakebay/native/dictionaries/
Strachey's is the most comprehensive, although Smith has some good phrases and
sentences.
Somewhere I have an MS Excel file where I made comparisons between Virginia
Algonquin and New England Algonquin (Wampanoag/Narragansset), and Lenape
(Delaware). There were actually more similarities between Va. and NE Algonquin
than either with Lenape. The most common words to be very similar were words
related to food.
I also have an MS Word file with both Strachey's and Smith's lists, side by
side for comparison. If anyone is interested in either file, contact me off-list.
