Library Rescues Historic Houses

The Eppa Barnes house, the home of an African-American family which
stood along Dumfries Road near Independent Hill, had to be moved when
Route 234 was widened. It may date to the late 1700s. "Bushy Park,"
another late 1700s house in the Gainesville area, was rescued from an
area under intense development. Each house will be preserved and
incorporated into the design of a new community library in its area.
The proposed libraries, to be located in Montclair and near Haymarket,
are included on the County bond referendum, set for November 7.

Learn to be a "House Detective." Historic House Research Lecture.

Learn the basics of historic house research. Hear presentation on three
local historic houses: "Evergreen," "LaGrange," and "The Shelter."

Thurs. Nov. 9, 7:30 p.m. at Haymarket Town Hall, 15000 Washington
Street, Haymarket, Va. Sponsored by the Haymarket Museum. The program
