I have two totally unrelated questions:
1) What was the Powhatan name for the James River?
2) Has anyone ever heard of the title Un used in front of a first name for a
black male? It is said to stand for Uncle, and was apparently in common use
in Nottoway & Amelia counties in the early-mid 20th century. According to
the person who used it, it was a title indicating respect, often from a
younger to an older man.
